Currently, we are installing RFID tags in the library’s collection, in preparation for a self –checkout system. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID tags are “smart” bar code labels that can talk to the library’s computer system. The tags can tell our computer system when an item is checked out, and when it is returned. You may have heard that there are concerns about privacy in relation to RFID tags. The only information available on the RFID tag is the item’s barcode number. We will continue to apply tight security with regard to our patron database.
